Chaos, thy name is Trump

Chaos thy name is Donald Trump. It comes as no surprise that his memo pausing federal dollars caused just that. Though a federal judge ultimately blocked Trump, the chaos began after the memo was received. Medicaid, education, and housing funds were all interrupted. It doesn’t help that Trump is such an idiot that he thought the order was “meant to be limited.” Too bad he has no clue what he’s doing. His move left agencies frozen.
WaPo reported that states were having problems accessing Medicaid funds, and preschools couldn’t get reimbursements from Head Start. This put those people at risk, and it went on for hours. Though WaPo reported that the cause of rental-assistance fund stoppage wasn’t clear, it likely had something to do with this ridiculous freeze. At the rate Trump is going, it’s going to take way less than four years to burn this country to the ground. Allegedly, Trump’s order was to stop “radical and wasteful” use, including funding for DEI and foreign aid. He must have done such a poor job of preparing this memo and directing his staff that it caused all this trouble. How many times do they have to tell this nitwit that Congress holds the federal spending purse strings? Trump seems to still believe himself a king, but several state attorneys general filed a lawsuit, challenging the legality of Trump’s freeze.
Because of those suits, this fiasco landed on the bench of Judge Loren L. AliKhan, who was a Biden appointee, and he ordered a stay. Skye Perryman, president of Democracy Forward had plenty to say: “This is a sigh of relief for millions of people who have been in limbo over the last twenty-four hours as the result of the Trump Administration’s callous attempt to wholesale shutter federal assistance and grant programs that people across this country rely on.” WaPo printed a map of the states that receive aid, and they wrote that, on average, states receive approximately $3,700 per person from the federal government. Skye also referred to it as “chaos,” and she was clear that the chaos derived from the White House. This only adds to the fright of the government being under an incompetent, hateful man.
The Constitution clearly gives the power over federal funds to Congress, but Trump thinks he can circumvent them. While there are circumstances that may permit a president to temporarily oversee funding, Georgetown Law professor David Super said: ” … only if certain procedures are met and conditions followed-not simply because the White House disapproves of its purpose.” Part of the reason that Trump thinks he can do whatever he wants is the Republican majority, who all brushed off the problems Trump caused. Likely, most of those who suffered are his supporters, again. He keeps doing things to hurt them. Even though the OMB warned Trump that he could not freeze funds that would impact individuals, he did it anyway. Hopefully, those who voted for him can see, in the space of a week, how much trouble he’s going to cause, especially for them.
