GOP dissolves into chaos amid Donald Trump Jr subpoena

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

On a day when House Democrats held Donald Trump’s Attorney General William Barr in contempt for illegally trying to cover up Trump’s scandals, it was clear what narrative Trump and the Republican Party were going to push: the Democrats were only doing this for partisan reasons. But then that narrative promptly blew up their face. Now it’s getting even worse for the GOP as more of them weigh in.

Just as the contempt hearing was ending, the news broke that the Senate Intelligence Committee, led by Republican Chairman Richard Burr, was subpoenaing Donald Trump Jr to come in and testify about the false statements he’d previously made to the Senate Judiciary Committee. In response, Trump Jr went through one of his associates to lash out at Richard Burr in the Wall Street Journal, accusing him of not being a real Republican. Now this is further escalating into something of a GOP civil war.

Republican Senator Rand Paul, who last year changed overnight from being a harsh Trump critic to a cartoonish Trump cheerleader, decided to weigh in on the news. Paul tweeted that “Apparently the Republican chair of the Senate Intel Committee didn’t get the memo from the Majority Leader that this case was closed.” So now we’ve got one prominent Republican Senator publicly calling out another prominent Republican Senator for daring to defy King Trump, which is supposed to be a no-no in GOP land.

Now comes the question of how much worse this is going to get before the day is over. Donald Trump just arrived in Florida, where he’s planning to hold a rally. During his rally speeches, Trump tends to spin even more derangedly out of control than he does on Twitter. Now Trump is giving this speech immediately after learning that his son has just been subpoenaed by a Senator from his own party. Will Donald Trump attack Richard Burr tonight? If so, all bets are off.
