Chaos erupts over Ron Johnson and Rick Scott coronavirus test results
Republican Senator Ron Johnson, who has abused his position to carry out the Kremlin’s agenda, and Republican Senator Rick Scott, a career financial criminal, both announced today that they’ve tested positive for coronavirus. But then, bizarrely, Scott’s office announced that he’d misspoken, and that he’d actually tested negative. So what’s really going on?
For good measure, we always just presume Rick Scott is lying no matter what he says. But looking back at the awkwardly worded way in which he announced his positive result on television, it does seem plausible that he merely misspoke. Rick Scott has spent so many years screwing up Florida, it’s not surprising that he would screw up the announcement of his test results.
In any case, if these Republican Senators are telling the truth about their test results, it means that three of them – Johnson, Mike Lee, and Thom Tillis – currently have coronavirus. Two of them serve on the Senate Judiciary Committee. At this point, if the committee loses one more Republican to illness or quarantine, it’ll at least temporarily lose the ability to advance Amy Coney Barrett out of committee.
And if the Republican Senate loses one more member period, it’ll lose the ability to confirm her overall. Of course Collins and Murkowski keep flip flopping on whether they’ll vote yes, so the Republicans may already not have enough votes. Now comes the question of how long the infected Republican Senators will remain ill, how long they’ll have to quarantine, and how many more of them will test positive. The confirmation process is already on a tight schedule, and can easily be derailed by this kind of thing.
