Cassandra Syndrome

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Are the Republicans coming for Social Security? Are they REALLY coming for women’s bodily autonomy? Are they actually going to take away healthcare? Yes, yes, and yes. For years now, us democrats have warned what would happen if Republicans took power. Many disbelieved us. We suffered from Cassandra syndrome.

Cassandra Syndrome, originating in Greek Mythology, relates to people who issue valid warnings but are disbelieved by others. Others choose not to take these warnings seriously. And I do not want it to happen again.

They’re trying. I see it everywhere. But the bottom line is these warnings that we issue are not rooted in Cassandra syndrome. They are valid, frightening, and very, very real. I’ve spoken about abortion, and undoubtedly, most of you realize the real possibility of a nation-wide abortion van should the republicans win.

But that is just one part of the GOP’s plan for us. Republicans are openly talking about massive cuts to social programs, including Social security. WE knows this. We’ve heard them say this. Ron Johnson, in particular, has said this — over and over again. Medicare, too, is something the GOP has been foaming at the mouth to get their eager little hands on.

The GOP politicians running the House Budget committee have said they would take the government hostage to get what they want. This type of talk is now being discussed all over Republican circles. People need to know these things.

But it’s possible the average voter does not know. If one doesn’t follow politics closely, one doesn’t hear. Think about an average person, busy at home, maybe turning on the television one day for ten minutes and seeing dishonest pundits leading with “Democrats in disarray” or some other garbage headline.

“Things can’t be that bad,” they might think. They ARE that bad — or they will be if we are not taken seriously in our warnings — if we’re dismissed as suffering from Cassandra syndrome.

Also terrifying is the fact that Republicans want to implement the same type of policies that have crippled the U.K., causing (Former) Prime Minster Liz Truss to quit her post after a stunning 45 days. That was 45 days too long — and long enough to cause significant destruction.

We will not have the luxury of ousting Republicans after 45 days. If they win — we’re stuck with them. So let’s get the word out and vote in record numbers.
