Capitol Police now investigating House Republican reconnaissance tours
Several House Democrats have now accused unnamed House Republicans of having given “reconnaissance tours” to the insurrectionists the day before the attack on the U.S. Capitol. This is a serious allegation, and it must be gotten to the bottom of, because it’ll help determine whether the Republicans were merely inciters of the attack, or actual domestic terrorism co-conspirators, which would be far more severe.
Now CBS News is reporting that the Capitol Police have launched an investigation into the House Republican tours. This means it’s now a criminal matter. If any House Republicans did indeed give these tours, they’re presumably going to be criminally prosecuted. This echoes what Speaker Nancy Pelosi said during her press conference earlier today, which is that if any House members need to be punished for their roles in the Capitol attack, it’s beyond anything that she can do, and that punishment has to come from law enforcement.
So now we wait to see where this ugly trail of evidence leads. We don’t know for sure who did or didn’t do what during this attack. But we do know that the people who carried out the Capitol attack were inept idiots who had no idea what they were even trying to accomplish, and therefore couldn’t have gotten as far as they did without the help of knowledgeable people on the inside. This will all lead back to someone, it’s just a matter of who and how many.
