Did Trump not know the cameras were on him?

Dear Palmer Report readers,

We all understand what a dark era we're heading into. Journalists will be prosecuted. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. Advertising networks can't be counted on. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight, because someone has to.

In that regard we're looking to start funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens or how dark things get. We've launched a reader supported fund, and we've already raised $3360 and counting. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can contribute here. Thank you in advance.
Sincerely,

Donald Trump is unraveling in such rapid and frankly weird fashion these days, it’s become difficult to interpret some of the strange things that are transpiring. Yesterday was a profoundly ugly day for Trump, as the fallout from the Mulvaney debacle got worse, and more Republicans began distancing themselves from Trump. But somewhere in there yesterday, did Trump literally give the finger to two female astronauts?

Trump had a conference call yesterday with the two women who were carrying out the first all-female spacewalk. At one point Trump got confused, thinking this was the first time women have done a spacewalk, period. After they gently corrected him, Trump decided to scratch his forehead – with his middle finger. Check out this C-SPAN image of that moment, captured by Twitter user @Raelyk:

We have no way of knowing if Donald Trump did this on purpose. But there are only three explanations, and none of them are good. Is Trump too far gone to even realize that he was using his middle finger to scratch an itch while in the presence of others? Did he do it on purpose while forgetting there were cameras on him, thinking that only his own advisers in the room would see it? Or did he do it for the cameras on purpose? One way or the other, this whole thing is absurd.
