Everyone piles on after Donald Trump swings and misses at John McCain

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

With the Republican Senate increasingly lining up against Donald Trump on key vote after key vote, it’s clear that the GOP is starting to think Trump is going down, and is afraid of going down with him. Yesterday, Trump made the rather strange calculation that the best way to win over GOP Senators was to viciously attack the late John McCain. Today he did it again, in even more ridiculous fashion, and the blowback was swift and immense.

For reference, here’s the garbage that Trump spewed this time: “So it was indeed (just proven in court papers) “last in his class” (Annapolis) John McCain that sent the Fake Dossier to the FBI and Media hoping to have it printed BEFORE the Election. He & the Dems, working together, failed (as usual). Even the Fake News refused this garbage!”

Here’s the thing: none of this even happened. It’s long been widely reported that John McCain was made aware of the Steele Dossier shortly after the 2016 election. At this point he retrieved a copy from Europe and dutifully turned it over to the FBI for investigation. So this nonsense about how McCain somehow tried and failed to get it published before the election? That’s just something that Trump misheard on Fox News, or made up out of thin air.

Numerous people across the political spectrum quickly lambasted Donald Trump for this latest idiocy. But the best line came from Meghan McCain. Whatever you think of her, she nailed it when she tweeted this at Trump: “My father lives rent free in your head.” She then deleted the response for some reason, but it was perfect.
