Rod Rosenstein’s brilliant head fake against Donald Trump
On days like today, I’m reminded of why Palmer Report has to exist. I’d like to be at the beach right now. I’d love to let the mainstream media handle today’s story between Rod Rosenstein and Donald Trump, because it’s so clear what really happened here, and it’s so clearly a non-story. But the mainstream media is instead seizing the opportunity to misrepresent the story and thus crank up its ratings… so here’s what actually happened today.
Trump demanded that Rosenstein investigate how the DOJ and the FBI were investigating the Trump campaign. If Rosenstein had refused, it would have prompted Trump to fire Rosenstein and replace him with someone who was willing to falsely announce that the Trump campaign really was victimized. So instead Rosenstein simply said sure, he’ll run an investigation into the investigation. If this were a movie, this would be the scene where Rosenstein looked at the camera and winked for effect.
Rosenstein knew he could easily agree to investigate the investigation, because there was no wrongdoing on the part of the DOJ or the FBI, and his investigation will end up definitively proving as much. In the meantime, Trump thinks he’s won. In his deluded mind, this new “investigation” is going to expose that President Obama personally put on a wig and funny glasses and colluded with Russia on the Trump campaign’s behalf. So Trump is going to stop pushing now, because he thinks he’s gotten his way, which is why Rosenstein won today.
If you think Rod Rosenstein caved today, then you haven’t been paying attention to how he’s been handling things for the past year. He’s regularly allowed Trump to think he’s won, so Trump would be sated for awhile, thus allowing the investigation into Trump’s crimes to continue unabated. And if you think Trump has somehow gained the upper hand here, keep in mind that Trump is such an easily manipulated buffoon, even an idiot like Rudy Giuliani has figured out how to snow him. Of course Rosenstein is snowing him.
Donald Trump gained literally nothing today. No, Rod Rosenstein isn’t going to come back and announce that Obama and the FBI were being unfair to Trump. No, Rosenstein isn’t going to give Trump access to the evidence against him, as some pundits are hysterically claiming, because Rosenstein isn’t an idiot. The real story is that Trump just put most of his few remaining chips down on a risky gambit that will gain him nothing, and can blow up in his face in too many ways to list. But the mainstream media knows it can get a whole lot better ratings by trying to convince you that Trump succeeded in becoming a dictator today, or some other doomsday fantasy.
