After the House concluded its current round of televised impeachment hearings yesterday, Donald Trump and his allies immediately began pushing the narrative that he was thrilled about how it was going, and he couldn’t wait to be put on trial in the Senate. The media began parroting this nonsense, despite there being no basis for it. This morning Trump pushed similar bluster when he called in to Fox and Friends.

Palmer Report told you that this was nothing more than false bravado. The House impeachment hearings went incredibly poorly for Donald Trump, and it backed his Republican Senate allies into a corner where their party will suffer damage no matter how they vote on impeachment. Sure enough, Trump’s brave face is already melting this evening in real time. Just ask the two newspapers he hates the most.

The Washington Post is reporting this evening that Donald Trump is “miserable.” The New York Times is reporting that Trump finds his current circumstances “intolerable.” Keep in mind that these reports are being sourced to people close to Trump, meaning that the Trump White House has now shifted to a strategy of admitting that Trump is at rock bottom.

Why do this? Perhaps Donald Trump and his handlers are trying to paint him as a sympathetic figure. Or maybe Trump is laying the groundwork for a possible exit. After all, you don’t leak that you’re miserable and you can no longer tolerate your job, unless you’re trying to find some way out of it. We’ll see where this new narrative goes. In the meantime, so much for the whole “Trump is somehow magically winning” narrative. Even his own White House is now admitting that was just a puff of smoke.
