Donald Trump is going out with both middle fingers blazing

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

There’s really only one reason Donald Trump is still in the Oval Office instead of a prison cell: for his first two years, he’s had a Republican-controlled House and Senate going out of its way to protect him from his numerous criminal scandals. If the Democrats take control of the House or the Senate in next month’s elections, Trump is about to be exposed in seventeen different ways. He knows it too. So you’d think he’d be trying to, you know, win these elections.

What we’re seeing instead is something just a wee bit different. Donald Trump held a rally in Montana last night, which makes sense, as the Republican Senate candidate there appears to only be down by two to four points. It’s a theoretically winnable race for the GOP if Trump can help put his guy over the top. But you see, Trump wasn’t looking to help the guy win.

Instead Trump booked his rally in one of the most comparatively liberal pockets of Montana, which is not easy to do. Was he looking for a fight? Was he simply trying to prove to himself that he could draw a crowd in a liberal town? Who knows what depraved anti-logic rules this man’s mind these days. But the bottom line is that he didn’t even bother to try doing what might have helped his party’s Senate candidate, which would have been to book a rally in the reddest part of town, and to try to drive his fans to the polls en masse.

This is before getting to the part where Donald Trump always ends up using these rallies to blow smoke up his own butt, and tell idiotic fake stories, and mug for the harder-to-find cameras, and do everything but try to convince anyone in attendance to care about the Republican candidate in question. Trump has reached a point where he’s not just giving unhelpful speeches; he’s holding them in unhelpful places. Even he’s not stupid enough to think that this is going to help his party win the midterms. He’s just screwing with everyone, while he still can.
