“Grandiosity is a coverup for a hurting little kid who can never fill that pit of neediness, that sense of grievance that goes back to when his mother couldn’t give him the love he needed at a very young age.”

These words were spoken by Paul Elovitz, a historian at Ramapo College in New Jersey. He was speaking with the Washington Post.

Elovitz creates profiles of Presidents. He made these statements as he spoke about Donald Trump, whom he believes did not receive the love he needed as a child to grow up a whole and empathetic human.

Michael Cohen has said much the same.

“To protect his incredibly fragile ego, he needs to create this victimization, ” Cohen explained to the Washington Post.

Cohen also spoke of Trump’s martyr complex, saying:

“That’s where the martyrdom comes in: he had to shift the blame on someone else, and then he can say, “The only one standing in between them and you is me.”

It is a fascinating theory and one that is likely true. Donald Trump may physically LOOK like an adult but is a wayward child wrapped in an adult’s body, a screaming infant, without the maturity to know right from wrong.

Of course, many others came from similar backgrounds who DO grow up, mature with the ability to see their own mistakes and take responsibility for their actions.

It is a mystery why some children become bad apples, and others do not. Many believe that some are “born bad.” I think this myself.

There is no time capsule where we can go back, put Trump with another, more loving family, and see if he’d grow up the same way. I suspect he would. This is because if he does have the disease of malignant narcissism AND is an antisocial personality, then there is no cure. It wouldn’t matter where he grew up.

Personality disorders touch the good, the bad, and the ugly. They do not differentiate.

I do not think Trump should get a pass because he happens to have had dysfunction in his life. Many have had the same, some have had far, far worse, and they still grow up with the ability to know right from wrong.
