Democratic House leaders moved closer to impeaching Donald Trump this weekend, as the chairs of the three most prominent House committees each publicly stated that impeachment was justified, or a possibility, or both. Now that Adam Schiff, Elijah Cummings, and Jerry Nadler have all spoken their piece about impeachment, Trump is speaking his – and it’s predictably bonkers.

Half a day after Democratic House leaders made clear that impeachment is on the table, Donald Trump finally decided to say something about it. Trump posted this surreal tweet in response: “How do you impeach a Republican President for a crime that was committed by the Democrats? MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” That’s right, in his classic projectionist fashion, Trump is insisting that he didn’t collude with the Russians and obstruct justice; his adversaries somehow did.

That part doesn’t matter, of course, because the Mueller report makes clear that the highest levels of the Trump campaign did collude with the Russians with the intent of altering the outcome of the election, whether they were criminally charged for it or not. The report all spells out that Trump committed felony obstruction of justice in such severe manner, it makes Richard Nixon’s obstruction look like a walk in the park.

As Palmer Report has explained, House Democrats are going to have to bring in Robert Mueller and the key witnesses for public testimony over the next month one way or the other, because these are the witnesses who will publicly establish the grounds for any impeachment charges against Donald Trump. It’ll be roughly the same process for the next month whether they call it “impeachment” or not. We very much doubt that the likes of Schiff, Cummings, and Nadler would be out there talking impeachment right now if Speaker Nancy Pelosi weren’t on board with it.
