The surest way to know Donald Trump is saying something stupid is if his lips are moving. A day he says something idiotic, outrageously offensive, or reckless for national security or the economy is probably a day that ends in -y. Because of this habit, it’s easy to overlook a lot of what his plans are and thereby normalize them. That’s why it’s helpful when known experts call out his lies and misleading claims, however tedious the work might seem.

In recent weeks, as Donald Trump has less room for error, he’s been getting some considerable blowback. First it was for his comments on the Medal of Honor that highlighted his consistent pattern of belittling war veterans. This week, he vowed to slash energy and fuel prices by half, despite the fact that the president doesn’t control prices of either one, something Republicans have trouble understanding whenever they aren’t running the country.

Donald Trump has already been scrutinized for bribing oil companies in exchange for their support, but Matt Randolph, the vice president of Sentinel Energy, is calling him out specifically for this empty promise alone – as to do so would be catastrophic. It would mean full dependence on foreign oil, while also forcing these companies to eliminate jobs and as a result, cease production, quickly bringing the U.S. into recession if such a policy ever came to fruition, even bringing the GDP quickly to a negative number.

Of course, none of this means much to Donald Trump, who’s desperate to say anything to get elected so he can avoid prison – and thinks only of himself – but this alone, however you cut it, is the simple reason why he should never be trusted with power again. Let’s do all we can to make Vice President Harris into Madam President-elect on Nov 5 and give her a Democratic trifecta.
