Donald Trump said that “black people are too stupid to vote for me” and other horrible racist things
Earlier today, Donald Trump’s former personal attorney Michael Cohen appeared to endorse Democratic candidate Andrew Gillum for Governor of Florida. Palmer Report pointed out that this was ostensibly an attempt on Cohen’s part at fighting back against Trump’s false and racist accusations against Gillum. Now we’re getting some additional context on what it was all about: Cohen has just revealed the racist remarks that Trump was making behind the scenes during the 2016 election.
Michael Cohen is now telling Vanity Fair in a lengthy new profile piece that Donald Trump once told him, “black people are too stupid to vote for me.” Cohen also says that Trump remarked “Name one country run by a black person that’s not a shithole,” which falls in line with earlier claims from within the White House that Trump had referred to predominantly black nations as “shithole countries.” Cohen also says that Trump made racist remarks to him during the Apprentice days.
None of this, of course, is surprising. Donald Trump has spent his entire time in politics making one racist remark, and telling one racist lie, after another. He falsely accused President Obama of having been born in Kenya. He’s falsely accused Andrew Gillum of being a “thief.” He’s falsely accused Mexican immigrants of being rapists and drug dealers. Currently, he’s falsely accusing a peaceful immigrant caravan of being a bunch of violent criminals.
Donald Trump’s support base, which at this point consists entirely of deranged, racist, mentally incompetent, and evil people, will probably love him even more upon learning that he’s said these racist things to Michael Cohen. But as always, Trump’s fate won’t be decided by his shithole base. It’ll be decided by how many of his most tentative supporters finally give up on him, and how many Resistance voters turn out to vote.
