Donald Trump goes full “birther” on Kamala Harris – and it’s already blowing up in his face
Yesterday a pile of human excrement masquerading as a law professor published an article in Newsweek in which he made the claim that Kamala Harris somehow isn’t constitutionally eligible for the presidency, even though he acknowledged she was born in Oakland. You just knew that Donald Trump, being a sick, desperate, racist bastard, was going to jump on it – and he wasted no time.
During his press conference this evening, Donald Trump was asked what he thought of the article. Trump seemed to think that the author was claiming that Kamala Harris wasn’t born in the United States. But even after the reporter explained that the author was merely making a xenophobic argument about Harris’ parents being immigrants, Trump still responded by heaping praise on the author.
In other words, Trump has gone full “birther” on Kamala Harris. Here’s the thing, though: it’s not going to work. This is a page out of a twelve year old playbook that’s outdated enough for everyone to roll their eyes out by now, but not so outdated that it can be recycled from scratch. This is simply another instance of Trump, being completely out of ideas and nearly out of brain cells, trying to rely on a fading playbook that’s becoming less effective for him by the day.
In response to Donald Trump’s meltdown, the word “birther” began trending on Twitter as everyone pushed back against him. This isn’t going to work for him this time around. Then again, it didn’t work against Barack Obama either; he won both times he ran. The racists have already decided to hate Kamala Harris for not being white; they don’t need additional reasons. Birtherism only works if the voters in the middle fall for it – and they’re not going to fall for the notion that Kamala Harris is somehow not a natural born citizen even though everyone on all sides acknowledges she was born in California.
