Bill Barr just crashed and burned
Even as the media largely plays up Attorney General Bill Barr as some kind of evil genius, Palmer Report keeps pointing out that Barr actually has a largely ineffective record when it comes to being Donald Trump’s henchman. For instance, Barr has tried and failed to meddle in the Flynn, Cohen, Stone, Lev, Igor, and Bannon cases. Now Barr has really crashed and burned on something that’s near and dear to Trump.
For a few years now, Donald Trump has been insisting that then-President Obama, then-Vice President Joe Biden, and others “illegally” unmasked Michael Flynn in U.S. intel reports during the transition period. To that end, Trump had Bill Barr launch a lengthy probe into this supposed unmasking scandal, in the hope of ginning up some kind of criminal scandal for Obama and Biden.
But now the U.S. Attorney assigned to the investigation has found no real wrongdoing, and has completed his work without bring any criminal charges against any Obama people, or even a report detailing any supposed wrongdoing, according to the Washington Post. This isn’t surprising, because there was nothing to find. But it shows that Barr simply doesn’t have the muscle to twist U.S. Attorneys’ arms into bringing sham criminal charges.
Over the past week Donald Trump has repeatedly chastised Bill Barr on Twitter for having failed to arrest any of Trump’s political adversaries. Now that Barr has officially failed Trump yet again in this regard, we’ll see how Trump lashes out in response. But the pattern is more clear than ever that Barr is either a highly inept henchman, or he’s merely been selling Trump a bill of goods all this time without really sticking his neck out.
