Bill Barr has waited until now, when Donald Trump is completely powerless and half senile and can’t effectively retaliate, to speak up against him. Worse, Barr is trying to cash in with a book in which he pretends “Trump in 2024” is some big threat, under the guise that buying the book will somehow help take Trump down.

Barr is clearly trying to rehabilitate his reputation. And much of the media (left, right, and center) will try to help him in that goal. While Barr was in office, we saw one major news report after another that was sourced to a “person familiar with Bill Barr’s thinking” or something similar, which was always just thinly veiled code for Barr himself having leaked the story to the media. The media always uses comparative kid gloves with those political figures who regularly leak stuff to them.

It’s a big part of why Barr was able to get away with flat out lying about the contents of the Mueller Report. Everyone in the media knew he was lying, but most of them surely owed editorial favors to him for all those leaks he provided while he was in office, so they just went along with what Barr claimed was in the Mueller Report. Barr is no fool. He’d been amassing those chips with the media for a long time, so he could cash them in when he needed them.

Plenty of media pundits have since changed their tune and belatedly called Barr out for his lies about the Mueller Report, but far too late to make a difference. Now we’re about to find out just how many friends Barr still has in the media, as he begs for cable news interview slots to promote his book, and positive book reviews in major news outlets.

Bill Barr committed felony obstruction of justice in plain sight, and he survived because the mainstream media – left, right, and center – covered for him. Now Barr wants to cash out with his book deal, which will net him millions if it becomes a bestseller. The most important thing you can do is to 1) not buy it, and 2) let the media know that you won’t tolerate any attempt on their part at hyping the book.
