Big Brother

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

The term “Big Brother is watching” feels particularly meaningful this election season. That’s because, in many ways, Big Brother IS watching. The idea of Big Brother, brought to life so terrifyingly in the great George Orwell’s book ‘1984″ conveys the idea of a radical Government existing through propaganda, spying on its people, wanting only control.

And if it does not get that control, it punishes its people. “It was one of those pictures,” Orwell wrote, “which are so contrived that the eyes follow you about when you move. Big Brother is watching you.”

And when one thinks of Republicans, one must think of Big Brother because that is exactly who the GOP has turned into. It wasn’t always this way, although the symptoms started showing long before the disease of Donald Trump taking his walk down that escalator surfaced.

But now, the illness and hysteria of Big Brother have infected the GOP to such a degree that they can’t give up their virus. They might be lost without it. I reject the idea, made popular by some pundits, that Donald Trump “turned the Republicans” bad. Nobody can be turned bad. They must already have it in them.

Perhaps the rottenness was just waiting for an opening. But one thing is certain. Although Trump allowed for the manifestation of Big Brother, he was not the direct causation. If not for him, it might have been someone else.

And Big Brother is precisely what the GOP idolizes. They want to watch women carefully dictating where they can travel and imprisoning them if they dare to make their own decisions to get abortions.
They want to do away with things like Social Security, leaving people dependent on them for survival. And they want vengeance.

Vengeance is a key component of Big Brother. Let us not forget our 1984 protagonist and how he suffers as a result of his own attempts at individuality. And make no mistake — if the GOP wins, one of their biggest priorities will be payback to the Biden administration.

The GOP cares far more about circumventing the will of the people than about honoring it. So this election is vital. It is about a bright and free political party versus a dictatorial manifestation of power –a party crazed by the thought of control, wanting to take away free will. It is about stopping Big Brother.
