Biden comes out swinging

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

We are in the midst of an epic struggle for democracy in America, and it’s becoming increasingly clear that Donald Trump, conservative Supreme Court justices, and Republican leaders are working overtime to undermine the nation’s democratic principles. Their actions aren’t just a power grab but a blatant disregard for the responsibilities that come with leadership, throwing America under the bus.

Monday’s Supreme Court 6-3 ruling on presidential immunity dangerously puts the President of the United States above the law, bludgeoning a cornerstone of American democracy. Within hours, President Biden addressed the nation. Highlighting the ruling’s grave implications, he pointed out that now, the only limits on presidential power are self-imposed.

Biden then went in a direction that could not set himself further apart from the former guy. “I know I will respect the limits of the presidential power, as I have for three and a half years,” he pointed out. “But any president, including Donald Trump, will now be free to ignore the law,” he warned.

Indeed, the Biden administration is proving yet again that it has been a beacon of steady, sober leadership. While Trump and his autocratic cronies are tripping over themselves to dismantle democratic guardrails, Biden remains focused on governance that delivers for all Americans. Already since the ruling, the administration announced significant strides in improving the nation’s infrastructure and protecting its citizens.

One of the key initiatives, as detailed in a new fact sheet, is the announced $504 million investment in 12 Regional Technology and Innovation Hubs. These hubs are designed to create good-paying jobs and drive economic opportunity and innovation in communities across the country. This investment is part of a broader strategy to ensure that technological advancement and economic prosperity are accessible to all Americans, not just a select few.

The Biden administration also announced new actions to protect workers and communities from extreme weather, which caused over $90 billion in total damage last year. These measures include significant funding for resilience projects, improving disaster preparedness, and ensuring that communities most vulnerable to climate change are not left behind. Again, in contrast to Trump, these efforts remind Americans of Biden’s unwavering commitment to addressing climate change and safeguarding the health and safety of all Americans.

The over-the-top Supreme Court ruling with accompanying Republican cheerleading is alarming. But this development is further evidence of Trump and his conservative allies’ obsession with amassing power and avoiding accountability. By contrast, no matter how the wind blows, President Biden and his administration continue showing America what responsible, effective governance looks like. Living in a robust and resilient democracy is not something we can take for granted—indeed, it’s on the ballot this November. Donate to Palmer Report
