Beto O’Rourke fires back after Donald Trump has El Paso meltdown

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Last night, Donald Trump apparently decided that the best way to set a “presidential” tone for his visit to El Paso today was to launch a disingenuous and bizarre attack on local El Paso hero Beto O’Rourke. Suffice it to say that Beto wasn’t messing around, when he near-immediately fired back at Trump in fierce fashion.

After Beto O’Rourke announced that he’s holding a counter-event in El Paso today for those who want nothing to do with Donald Trump’s stunt visit, Trump decided around midnight last night to begin attacking Beto. Trump took credit for Ted Cruz’s narrow victory over O’Rourke in 2018, and falsely accused O’Rourke of failing to “respect the victims & law enforcement.”

As is so often the case these days, no one was really sure what the increasingly erratic Trump was even talking about. Even as Trump’s ugly tweet began receiving more negative comments than retweets, Beto himself jumped in to set the record straight.

Beto O’Rourke quoted Donald Trump’s offending tweet and added this: “22 people in my hometown are dead after an act of terror inspired by your racism. El Paso will not be quiet and neither will I.” Enough said.
