Beto O’Rourke really is going for it
Beto O’Rourke is running for Governor of Texas, according to Axios. This is fantastic, because he’s the kind of high profile Democrat who can actually win in a reddish state like Texas. This is also a sign that Beto must think he can win, which is the latest sign that current Republican Governor Greg Abbott really is vulnerable.
Yes, Beto narrowly lost to Ted Cruz in a Senate race in Texas a few years ago. But Texas has become more diverse and less red since then – and Beto has become a more seasoned candidate since then.
There’s also ongoing buzz that actor Matthew McConaughey might also run for Governor. But there’s no clear indication as to what if any party affiliation he might adopt. Nor is there any clear indication that he’ll actually run. So the McConaughey buzz is best ignored for now. It’s time to unite behind Beto O’Rourke for 2022 – which isn’t that far away.
