This is the best news possible for House Democrats

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

“Why don’t the House Democrats do something?” For the past week I’ve been receiving this message several times per day, from numerous people, and their number is growing each day. People send me this message via social media, email, you name it. They’re so frustrated, they’re hounding me about it, as if there were something I could do. But you see, this is the best news possible for House Democrats.

Of course Nancy Pelosi and Jerry Nadler and the House Democrats want to impeach Donald Trump, bust William Barr for contempt, and so on. These are the right things to do, so the Democrats want to do these things in the name of justice. All you have to do is listen to them when they’ve spoken of late, and you can tell exactly what they want to do.

The thing is, it has to be done in the right way, because if it’s done in a reckless or brainless manner, it could backfire and hand Trump a second term. Doing it the right way involves making sure enough Americans are demanding impeachment before House Democrats begin referring to their ongoing proceedings as “impeachment.” The polls show that around 40% of Americans already want impeachment, and that’s before the likes of Robert Mueller and Don McGahn spell out Trump’s crimes on live national television, thus driving that number significantly higher.

The fact that so many people are already emphatically, angrily demanding impeachment is the best news possible for House Democrats. That kind of righteous indignation tends to be contagious, particularly when televised hearings are involved. Donald Trump’s support is only at about 40%, while another 40% want him impeached, which means another 20% of people disapprove of Trump but haven’t yet decided they want him impeached. They will, and soon. Once the impeachment number is up above 50%, the Democrats will start calling their proceedings “impeachment” – and it’ll proceed to drive Trump’s support even lower as it moves forward.
