GOP Senate candidate launches berserk attack on Mitch McConnell

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

It’s always a good thing when someone is calling out corrupt Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. It’s even better when it’s a Republican candidate who’s doing the calling out. Except, no, wait a minute, this is actually horrible. There’s a guy running for U.S. Senate in West Virginia named Don Blankenship who’s trying to start a feud with McConnell, and he’s resorting to some disturbingly xenophobic lengths.

Don Blankenship seems to have a problem with the fact that Mitch McConnell is married to a Chinese immigrant. We’ve spent plenty of time documenting all the things that we think are objectionable about McConnell’s wife Elaine Chao, who currently serves as Donald Trump’s Secretary of Transportation despite having a history of corruption scandals. But Blankenship isn’t interested in Chao’s actual shortcomings, and only seems interested in attacking her and her family for being Chinese.

Blankenship said in a radio interview that McConnell’s “father-in-law is, you know, is a wealthy Chinaperson and there’s a lot of connections to some of the brass, if you will, in China.” Really? There’s no evidence of this. McConnell is a corrupt criminal, but let’s stick to things he’s actually done wrong. So where is Blankenship getting this from? He says he’s “read in books that people think he’s soft on China.” It gets even stranger.

Don Blankenship is a convicted criminal who just got out of prison last year, and yet he’s somehow the Republican candidate for U.S. Senate. In addition, his racist ranting about Mitch McConnell and China doesn’t even seem to make sense, as Blankenship’s fiancee was born in China, and he’s apparently considering moving there if he loses the election. Much as we like the general idea of Republican candidates who are willing to stand up to McConnell, this guy Blankenship might be even worse. In the Trump era, this is the cesspool the GOP has turned into.
