Benjamin Netanyahu hangs Donald Trump out to dry

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Because Benjamin Netanyahu is a corrupt warmonger, and because he’s in the fight of his life right now as Israel tries to decide whether to keep him in power or put him in prison, it’s been widely assumed that he’s in favor of Donald Trump’s decision to assassinate Iranian leader Qasem Soleimani. After all, common sense suggests that the move would play well with Netanyahu’s base, just as it played well with Trump’s base.

But if Netanyahu is indeed pleased that Donald Trump is making a mess of the Middle East, he’s not willing to share in the credit for that mess. Netanyahu announced today that “the assassination of Suleimani isn’t an Israeli event but an American event. We were not involved and should not be dragged into it.”

In other words, Netanyahu is hanging Trump out to dry, by putting this mess entirely around Trump’s neck. Netanyahu could try to help his longtime ally Trump by vouching for how he’s handling things with Iran, but Netanyahu clearly isn’t willing to take that risk.

What’s fascinating here is that Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu are each facing bleak reelection odds that seem to be getting worse by the second, and they’re each going to be arrested and put on trial if they lose their respective reelection bids. Rather than try to help save each other, they’re each declining to stick their neck out for the other – thus increasing the odds that they’ll both go down.
