Even Donald Trump’s associates are befuddled by his latest bizarre meltdown

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Donald Trump’s daily rants on social media are becoming more frazzled and incoherent than ever, increasingly leaving observers confused as to what he might even be trying to get across. It turns out that the outside observers aren’t the only ones who aren’t quite sure what Trump is talking about these days. In fact at least two of Trump’s own associates seem befuddled over which of them was even the target of his latest meltdown.

The New York Times ran a story quoting Roger Stone and Sam Nunberg, who both provided unflattering quotes about Trump, explaining why they think Michael Cohen might flip on him. Trump responded by accusing one of the sources quoted in the story of being a “drunk/drugged up loser.” This set off immediate confusion as to whether Trump was hurling this accusation at Stone, or Nunberg, or perhaps someone else.

The author of the NYT story later stated on Twitter that she thought Trump was referring to Sam Nunberg, not Roger Stone. But it turns out even Trump’s associates are confused. Stone told his local newspaper, the Palm Beach Post, that Trump’s insult was “not a reference to me. Beyond that I have no comment.” Nunberg told CNN that “I have no idea who POTUS is talking about, so I have no response.” Phrases like “no comment” and “no response” are rarely a good sign.

Roger Stone has spent the past few weeks publicly lashing out at Sam Nunberg, so if he was confident that Trump’s insult was aimed at Nunberg, he would have just said so. Instead, Stone’s “no comment” remark seems to imply that even he’s not really sure if it was aimed at him or Nunberg. And of course you’d expect Nunberg to either deny that Trump’s insult was directed at him, or fire back in response, yet he’s taken a pass as well. Even Trump’s own people don’t seem to know what he’s talking about anymore.
