Bad news for Kyrsten Sinema
This week does not hold good news for Arizona Senator Kyrsten Sinema. Before I get into the weeds of the story, I want to say something, and that something is a big thank you.
It is a thank you to Palmer Report readers. I cannot read all the comments on Palmer Report but have read enough to see what intelligent, and politically passionate people said readers are. And I was deeply touched by some of you who have commented on how much you enjoy the occasional article where I weave in Greek Mythology. I love being creative when I can be, and I appreciate your appreciation and want to let you know. Thank you.
Unfortunately, few people appreciate Kyrsten Sinema these days. Her favorable have slid into nightmarish territory, and people in her own state and beyond are furious.
This fury is showing up in her polling loud and clear. In a new poll by Data for Progress, Sinema’s popularity stood at a jaw-dropping 25 percent. Those are awful numbers — even for Sinema.
But that isn’t all. In hypothetical matchups in the 2024 Democratic primary, Sinema was behind every possible challenger. And she was behind by almost 30 points.
This is quite serious for the Arizona Senator. If her numbers continue along these lines, it is possible she will not even run in 2024. She certainly will not win. If I were Sinema, I’d be terrified about now.
Of course, things can change. And it may be possible she has no interest in a second term though most Senators who attain power usually want to keep it. So something has got to give with Sinema. It does seem she is at a crossroads in her career. Will she pick the right road? Only time will be able to answer that one.
