Donald Trump just got some bad news from Michael Flynn

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Because he cut his plea deal so long ago, and because he’s mostly gone silent and largely faded from the headlines in the seven months since, it’s easy to forget that Michael Flynn did indeed cut a devastating plea deal against Donald Trump. By definition, Flynn turned over evidence and testimony to Special Counsel Robert Mueller immediately after cutting his deal. Now we’ve just gotten an official update on the Flynn deal, and it’s bad news for Trump.

Earlier this week Palmer Report told you that Michael Flynn was due to be referred for sentencing today, unless he and Robert Mueller asked for an extension. Sure enough, Mueller and Flynn made a joint filing in court today, asking for a two month delay on sentencing. So what does this Flynn delay tell us about the state of the Trump-Russia investigation, and why is it important?

Michael Flynn isn’t in prison yet because Robert Mueller hasn’t decided how long of a sentence he should receive. That decision is based on how useful Flynn proves to be as a cooperating witness. The only reason to continue delaying that decision is that Flynn is still of use. Again, keep in mind that as per how these deals work, he fully spilled his guts to Mueller seven months ago. This tells us that new things are coming up in the investigation, and Flynn also has useful information about these matters. Keep in mind that at this point, Mueller’s primary investigative focus appears to be on Donald Trump himself.

So now we know that, as Robert Mueller heads into these crucial next couple months of the Trump-Russia investigation, the stretch that Senate Intel Committee Vice Chair Mark Warner says we should “buckle up” for, Michael Flynn is still proving useful to Mueller’s efforts. That’s bad news for Donald Trump. By the way, this joint filing also proves that – despite the nonsense coming out of Michael Flynn Jr’s mouth on Twitter – the plea deal is still fully intact between Mueller and Flynn. If Flynn weren’t keeping up his end of the bargain, Mueller would have simply revoked the deal and arrested him by now.
