Michael Cohen’s new lawyer begins attacking Donald Trump

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Over the weekend Palmer Report pointed out that, in the days since Michael Cohen hired attorney Lanny Davis to represent him, his brief publicity tour had come to a sudden end. That usually means a client has decided to let his lawyer do the talking. We’re still awaiting official word as to whether Cohen’s lawyer is talking to federal prosecutors. In the mean time, Cohen’s lawyer is talking very publicly about Donald Trump’s legal team – and it’s not pretty.

Trump’s legal spokesman Rudy Giuliani appeared on ABC News yesterday and stated the view that Michael Cohen should go ahead and cooperate with prosecutors. It was essentially Rudy’s way of admitting that Donald Trump knows he can’t stop Cohen from flipping at this point. But then Rudy threw in the kicker that Cohen should tell the “truth.” Considering that Trump and his administration have consistently demonstrated virtually no relationship with the truth, Cohen’s lawyer didn’t take too kindly to this.

Here’s what Lanny Davis tweeted in response: “Did Rudy Giuliani really say on Sunday shows that Michael Cohen should cooperate with prosecutors and tell the truth? Seriously? Is that Trump and Giuliani definition of “truth”? Trump/Giuliani next to the word “truth” = oxymoron. Stay tuned. The truth matters.” So now we’re in a situation where Michael Cohen’s attorney is looking to get into a public war of words with Donald Trump’s attorney. Why does this matter?

Lanny Davis is a skilled attorney. He’s not going to do anything unless Michael Cohen wants him to do it. Davis’ public attack on Giuliani strongly hints at just how angry Cohen is at the Trump regime, and how badly he wants revenge. Davis is clearly willing to go the war-of-words route for the moment. But before long, Davis will likely remind Cohen that the only meaningful way to get revenge on Donald Trump is to cut a plea deal against him.
