Assistant U.S. Attorney demolishes Bill Barr

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. Attorney General Bill Barr has spent the past few days hurling all kinds of ineffective nonsense at the wall in the hope he could get any of it to stick – a sign that he’s got nothing viable in the tank. Now we’re seeing a more concrete sign of just how vulnerable Barr might be, and it’s coming from within the Department of Justice.

James Herbert, the Assistant U.S. Attorney for Massachusetts, published a letter in the Boston Globe yesterday titled “Barr dishonors Justice Department.” In his public letter, Herbert goes so far as to state that “The current attorney general has brought shame on the department he purports to lead.” ABC News is now confirming that Herbert really did write this letter.

This is a huge deal because, while numerous former Justice Department types have condemned Bill Barr over the past couple years, James Herbert is a current Assistant U.S. Attorney. He answers to the DOJ. Barr is his boss, and can theoretically fire him. But Herbert doesn’t appear to be worried about that prospect.

Considering how laughably ineffective Bill Barr has been when he’s tried to meddle in the Flynn, Stone, Cohen, Lev, Igor, and Bannon cases, and how miserably Barr failed when he tried to meddle with the leadership in the U.S. Attorney’s office in the SDNY, Herbert may be correct in assuming that Barr can’t really touch him. It’s becoming increasingly clear that Barr is unable to actually pull off any of his corrupt schemes, and that they’re instead merely designed to con Donald Trump into believing that he’s doing something to help him.
