As we predicted, Speaker Nancy Pelosi is now creating a select committee to investigate the Capitol attack

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

When most of the Republican Senate voted down a bipartisan January 6th commission a few weeks ago, numerous media pundits insisted that this meant no congressional investigation would take place into the Capitol attack. At the time, numerous media pundits insisted that this meant there would be no congressional investigation of the Capitol attack.

But this evening Speaker Nancy Pelosi has announced to House Democrats tonight that she is indeed creating a select committee to investigate the Capitol attack, according to a CNN report. Yes, this is the same select committee that Palmer Report has spent the past few weeks predicting Pelosi would appoint. How did we know?

Days before the Senate vote on the bipartisan commission failed, Pelosi held a press conference and strongly hinted that if the vote failed, she would appoint a select committee. So all that we did was take her word for it, and sure enough, here we are. Frankly, those media pundits who spent the past two weeks trying to gin up ratings and controversy, by acting like there would be no congressional investigation of the Capitol attack, should be ashamed of themselves.

In any case, we now await the details of what this committee will look like. Our guess is it’ll have Democrats and Republicans on it, but the Democrats will be the majority and will thus have all the power over things like subpoenas and hearings. But the upshot for now is that Congress is officially investigating the Capitol attack. To be clear, there was always a 100% chance this was going to happen. Anything else was just noise.
