Donald Trump seems to think his family is getting arrested any minute now
For of all Donald Trump’s complex neuroses, psychoses, mental defects, deranged moral failings, and just plain weird traits, one of his most easily understandable is his habit of projection. When he’s guilty of something, he accuses his adversaries of the same thing. When he thinks something is about to happen to him, he calls for it to happen to his adversaries.
One of Donald Trump’s biggest remaining apologists is radio host and cartoon demon Rush Limbaugh. He appeared on Fox News today and took things so far over the line, host Chris Wallace ended up reaming him for it. But that part didn’t matter to Trump, who was clearly watching, and who decided that this Limbaugh quote was the one that mattered:
These guys, the investigators, ought to be in jail. What they have done, working with the Obama intelligence agencies, is simply unprecedented. This is one of the greatest political hoaxes ever perpetrated on the people of this Country, and Mueller is a coverup.
By tweeting this quote, Donald Trump is saying that the federal investigators in the Trump-Russia scandal should be in jail. This means, of course, that he’s worried about people on his side going to jail. We think he’s referring to Paul Manafort, with whom he cut bait a long time ago, or Roger Stone, whom he’s recently thrown under the bus.
We think Donald Trump is saying this because he thinks federal investigators are about to make the only arrests that can truly strike fear into Trump: his family. It’s not that he necessarily feels empathy for Donald Trump Jr or Jared Kushner, because malignant narcissistic sociopaths like him don’t tend to feel empathy. But such arrests would mean that Trump is next, and that he’s doomed. He seems to think his family is going to get popped rather soon.
