Another one bites the dust

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Things can get so chaotic in the Trump era, it’s important not to lose track of the series of events in any given storyline. In fact the series of events involving Donald Trump and Jeff Sessions serves as a reminder of why everyone who gets in bed with Trump ends up regretting it.

Jeff Sessions was a U.S. Senator from Alabama, and based on inertia and demographics alone, he probably could have held onto his seat for life. Instead he gave it up to become Donald Trump’s Attorney General, which resulted in Sessions being tormented, humiliated, ultimately ousted, and lucky he didn’t go to prison for perjury. Sessions then decided he wanted his old Senate seat back, and so Trump got involved – in favor of Sessions’ Republican opponent. Sure enough, Sessions lost last night.

And so Jeff Sessions’ embarrassing but enduring political career has ended with a whimper – all because he got involved with Donald Trump. If Sessions had simply steered clear of Trump, he’d probably be in the Senate right now, chairing some important committee based on seniority, and smirking his way through whatever disastrous agenda he felt like pushing. Instead he’s toast. Another Trump lackey bites the dust.
