Another domino has fallen

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Over the past two weeks we’ve seen a number of dominoes fall in Jack Smith’s January 6th probe. First a pair of fake electors cut immunity deals. Then Rudy Giuliani did a proffer interview with Jack Smith’s team. Then a Trump 2020 campaign official also did a proffer interview. The question has been who else would end up caving and cooperating.

One of the big questions is, frankly, which of Donald Trump’s sidekicks are sane enough to realize it’s in their best interest to cut a cooperation deal. Many of the people Trump surrounded himself with in 2020 have seemingly convinced themselves that their own conspiracy theories will somehow magically save them from prosecution and prison.

But yesterday we saw an interesting and frankly a bit surprising development. Lin Wood, arguably the most unhinged out of all of Trump’s 2020 sidekicks, decided to surrender his law license because he was about to be disbarred anyway. It was the first sane move we’ve seen Wood make in a very long time. It was also a sign that he might be coherent enough to understand that 1) he’s in serious legal trouble, and 2) he has no choice but to cut a cooperating plea deal against Donald Trump.

So we’re going to go ahead and label Lin Wood’s voluntary surrender of his law license as another domino falling. It doesn’t guarantee that Wood will flip. But it does mean that Wood is at least aware that he can’t just hide behind his own unhinged conspiracy theories and magically win the battles he’s facing. His life as he knows it is over. Does he want a plea deal or does he want to go to prison for a very long time?
