Another big win for President Joe Biden
It seems like a lifetime ago as far as our news cycles are concerned, but in September, President Biden made history as the first sitting U.S. president to join a picket line alongside United Auto Workers in Detroit, where he gave a powerful speech and called on the city’s Big 3 automakers to pay their employees what they’re owed.
President Biden made it clear that his administration is the most pro-labor we’ve had in decades and he isn’t about to stop. Just over a month later, Ford Motors has announced a tentative deal with UAW putting 50% more money on the table than they did before the strike began on Sept. 15.
The new deal for workers would give them a 25% raise – up to $40 per hour, more than twice as much as what Ford Motors negotiators offered before the strike. Even better is that this deal is liable to be a strong template for what GM and Chrysler will offer their employees.
After we’ve seen UPS workers get a good deal that averted a strike, the WGA writers getting significant negotiations against AI, the pattern is very clear. When you elect Democrats and a Democratic administration, workers thrive and do better, and their concerns are more likely to be addressed. This is why we need to re-elect President Biden and retake the House in 2024.
