Donald Trump throws Twitter tantrum after one of his biggest supporters turns against him
As his entire world collapsed this week, Donald Trump made the weak and entirely expected decision to back down on his threat to shut down the government to get his border wall. Apparently, everyone saw this coming except for Trump’s most deranged and delusional supporters, who thought this laugh-out-loud wall fantasy was somehow ever going to happen. One of Trump’s most deranged supporters lashed out at him – and then Trump threw a tantrum of his own.
We generally try to avoid writing about someone like Ann Coulter whenever feasible, because she purposely tries to say the most offensive things possible, in the hope that the resulting attention – positive or negative – will help drive the sales of her latest worthless book. But this time around, Coulter said something about Donald Trump which managed to set him off in a big way, and it may be a sign that Trump is in danger of losing his deranged base.
After Donald Trump signaled that he was likely to sign a continuing resolution to keep the government open with no funding for his stupid wall, Ann Coulter declared – in all caps no less – that Trump was a “GUTLESS PRESIDENT IN WALL-LESS COUNTRY.” Okay, so she has to play to Trump’s toxic waste dump of a base, even when Trump sometimes strays from his base. Even Trump understands that, right? Well, usually. But this time he did something surreal in response.
Donald Trump has more than fifty million Twitter followers (large chunks of them fake Russian bots), but he only follows forty-six people, and about half of them are his family, his properties, and his advisers. Well, now it’s forty-five people. Ann Coulter was one of the very few people Trump was following, but after her attack tonight, Trump unfollowed her. If you’re not fully familiar with the dynamics of Twitter following, when these kinds of numbers are involved in a high profile account, it’s a big deal. It also tells us something about Trump’s mindset.
Donald Trump knows that he needs to keep a piece of crap like Ann Coulter happy on most days, because she does so much to keep his white trash racist base fired up while she’s trying to sell her horrid books to them. If his actions offend Coulter today, he makes it up to her tomorrow or next week, so she’ll keep doing his bidding. But not this time. Trump has now permanently told Coulter to go screw herself, and he’s made sure everyone knows about it. Either his rage has reached the point of self destruction, or he figures it doesn’t matter because he expects to be destroyed soon anyway.
