Donald Trump just made the Amazon rainforest fire crisis even worse
Donald Trump has publicly expressed disdain for just about every respected world leader, while generally only siding with the most corrupt of despots such as Kim Jong Un and Vladimir Putin. That’s because he’s just like they are. Sure enough, Trump has done it again.
After Trump finished wrecking the U.S. stock market today, he posted this tweet: “Just spoke with President Jair Bolsonaro of Brazil. Our future Trade prospects are very exciting and our relationship is strong, perhaps stronger than ever before. I told him if the United States can help with the Amazon Rainforest fires, we stand ready to assist!”
That all sounds well and good, but only if you don’t know the context. By all accounts, Bolsonaro’s corrupt anti-environmental policies are precisely why the Amazon rainforest is burning. Offering to help him stop the rainforest fires would be like offering to help Putin stop election hacking – which come to think of it, Trump has also done.
Worse, Donald Trump is making this all about trade with Brazil. Considering that Trump has made a point of wrecking U.S. trade relations with key trade partners on multiple continents, there’s little doubt that Trump is up to no good when it comes to whatever he has in mind here. Considering Bolsonaro’s corruption, Trump is likely looking to erect a “trade deal” that allows him and Bolsonaro to personally profit from it, while harming both economies.
