All I want for Christmas…
I hope that all of you who celebrate are having a great Christmas today. It got me thinking about what I want for Christmas, which in turn got me thinking about Christmas of 2024. After all, it’s precisely a year away, and it’s almost unfathomable how much will happen between now and then.
For starters, Donald Trump will be convicted in at least one criminal trial well before Christmas of 2024 (the Supreme Court appears to have no interest in intervening on his behalf). And whether or not Trump lands the Republican nomination on his way to prison, Joe Biden is likely going to win reelection. But it may not all be merry.
I’m far more concerned about whether President Biden will enter his second term with a Congress that’s eager to help him get things done, or a Congress that’s eager to burn things down. The Democrats need to win the House and the Senate in 2024. Both are doable. There’s a clear path to the Democrats flipping the House and retaining a fifty seat de facto majority in the Senate. But that’s going to come down to you.
Majority control of the House and Senate in 2024 will come down to how many of you are willing to get involved in the most competitive of House and Senate races, through small dollar donations, phone banking, or just retweeting the candidates in those races.
