Donald Trump has completely incoherent all caps meltdown as it sinks in that he’s been impeached
After spending all day dishonestly bragging about his latest terrible international trade snafu, Donald Trump finally got down to business this afternoon and addressed the start of his impeachment trial. Two things stand out. First, Trump is ranting about impeachment in all capital letters, a sign of just how rattled he is. Second, Trump just made clear that he has no idea how impeachment works.
Here’s what Donald Trump tweeted this afternoon: “I JUST GOT IMPEACHED FOR MAKING A PERFECT PHONE CALL!” We double checked the calendar to make sure we didn’t just travel through a time machine, and sure enough, today is January 16th, 2020. That’s fascinating, because Trump was impeached on December 18th, 2019. Yet he’s saying he just got impeached.
It appears that all along, Trump believed he hadn’t actually been impeached, simply because the articles of impeachment hadn’t been delivered to the Senate yet. This has been a popular right-wing propaganda talking point, but no one spewing this nonsense really believed it, did they? Apparently Trump did. Now he thinks he just got impeached today, which might explain the recent reports that he and his legal team spent the past month not preparing for the Senate impeachment trial.
Donald Trump must have spent the past month truly believing that he hadn’t been impeached by the House, and that his Senate impeachment trial somehow magically wasn’t going to happen. In the moments since his “I JUST GOT IMPEACHED” tweet, Trump has moved on to tweeting fake poll numbers, which drives home the notion that Trump truly is running on nothing but delusion at this point.
