Alina Habba just stepped in it

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Some of Donald Trump’s attorneys are there to represent him poorly in court. Some of them are there to take the fall the next time he needs a scapegoat. And some of them are there solely to make nonsensical Trump-like arguments to right wing media. Alina Habba is certainly in the latter category these days – and she’s not even any good at that.

Habba did an interview today and asserted that there’s something suspicious about Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg deciding to bring his criminal case against Trump in – get this – Manhattan. Where was he supposed to bring the case, Montana? He’s the Manhattan DA. There is also the pesky fact that Trump committed the crimes in question in Manhattan, his former home base. Having the trial in Manhattan is the default option and makes the most sense. Anywhere else would be suspicious.

And so Alina Habba has once again stepped in it. The arguments she makes to right wing media aren’t supposed to make sense to normal people who can think. But they’re supposed to make at least a little bit of nominal sense, so right wing audiences will fall for it without thinking about it. “It’s suspicious that a Manhattan prosecutor is putting Trump on trial in Manhattan for crimes Trump allegedly committed in Manhattan” doesn’t even past that laugh test.
