Wait, Donald Trump said WHAT about Al Sharpton?

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Donald Trump’s interview this morning with Chris Wallace was a disaster for Trump on every level. Wallace destroyed Trump on topics like the coronavirus crisis and his cognitive test. During the interview, Trump tried out one of his strangest new lines yet.

Wallace brought up the topic of renaming U.S. military bases that are currently named after confederate traitors. Any person with a functioning brain understands that the bases would simply be renamed after U.S. military heroes. But Trump said this in response: “What are we gonna name them? You gonna name them after the Reverend Al Sharpton?”

Wait, what? Al Sharpton was never even in the military. No one on any side of this issue has suggested that the bases be renamed after Sharpton. And we’re sure that Sharpton would be the first one to say that it shouldn’t happen. Yet Trump is invoking a false choice of either keeping the bases named after traitors, or renaming them after a black political activist.

Donald Trump is, as always, playing the racism card. He’s just getting worse at it. Even Trump’s own supporters aren’t going to be tricked into believing that the Democrats want to name a military base after Reverend Al Sharpton. For the record, we think the military bases in question should all be named “Fort John McCain.” That would properly honor a military hero while also getting under Trump’s skin.
