Donald Trump’s attack on Al Sharpton backfires spectacularly

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

This morning Donald Trump renewed his racist attacks on Congressman Elijah Cummings, prompting Reverend Al Sharpton to get involved. Trump then began attacking Sharpton, calling him a “conman” and worse. The trouble: Trump just said something horrible about himself. See if you can spot it below.

Here’s what Trump tweeted about Al Sharpton: “I have known Al for 25 years. Went to fights with him & Don King, always got along well. He “loved Trump!” He would ask me for favors often. Al is a con man, a troublemaker, always looking for a score. Just doing his thing. Must have intimidated Comcast/NBC. Hates Whites & Cops!”

Yes, there’s the blatantly racially divisive “Hates Whites & Cops” remark. By now we’ve come to expect those kinds of racist lies from Donald Trump. Here’s the thing though. Trump just said that he knows Al Sharpton is a conman because he’s been hanging out with him for twenty-five years.

Why would Trump knowingly hang out with a conman for twenty-five years? If Trump truly does believe that Al Sharpton is a conman, then Trump is admitting that he’s willing to hang out with conmen whenever it suits his purposes. Sharpton ended up getting the best of the exchange when he tweeted this retort about Trump: “If he really thought I was a con man he would want me in his cabinet.”
