Rachel Maddow was right when she said last night that the House impeachment inquiry should try to stop having multiple televised hearings in one day going forward. Yesterday was simply exhausting, as the Volker-Morrison hearing ended roughly eleven hours after the Vindman-Williams hearing began. Today has been another overly long marathon – but suffice it to say that Adam Schiff is winning.

This morning’s hearing, which stretched so deep into the afternoon that Gordon Sondland expressed concern about missing his flight back to Europe, served to bury Donald Trump and just about everyone in his regime. We’re not sure what pressure Schiff and the House Democrats may or may not have placed on Sondland behind the scenes in order to get him to come clean today and avoid potential perjury charges, but suffice it to say that the hearing was a huge win for Schiff. The thing is, he’s not done.

As we speak, the House impeachment inquiry is just beginning another televised impeachment hearing. This one centers around Laura Cooper from the Department of Defense and David Hale from the State Department. Their testimony won’t be nearly as explosive as any of what Sondland said this morning. But these witnesses – Cooper in particular – will nonetheless play a key role in helping further establish Donald Trump’s guilt.

What’s remarkable is that Adam Schiff just keeps piling on. His job is to lay out all of the evidence against Donald Trump and his co-conspirators. He got his major, game-changing breakthrough today with the Sondland testimony. But now, like any good prosecutor, he’s continuing to push forward with his job, long after the sun has gone down.
