Adam Schiff calls bullshit on Matthew Whitaker’s announcement

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Earlier this evening Palmer Report explained why, even though there’s some evidence that Special Counsel Robert Mueller is indeed reaching the crescendo of his Trump-Russia probe, there is no reason to believe Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker’s claim that Mueller will wind things down within a few weeks. Now Adam Schiff is singing a similar tune.

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff posted this on Twitter tonight: “An Acting Attorney General who refuses to follow the advice of ethics lawyers and recuse himself from an investigation in which he has shown a clear bias is the last person who should speak for the Special Counsel. While the probe is ongoing, Mueller can speak for himself.” That last sentence is key.

Schiff seems to be implying that Whitaker isn’t speaking for Mueller. This dovetails with Palmer Report’s premise that Whitaker was merely speaking to an audience of one today when he took to the podium and insisted that it’ll all be over soon. Trump thinks he’s about to be magically exonerated anyway, so he’s looking forward to Mueller reaching the finish line. Trump was surely rattled that Mueller picked off his oldest friend Roger Stone on Friday, and so Whitaker decided to try to calm Trump down with this faux-announcement.

In any case, Robert Mueller did seem to rush the indictment and arrest of Roger Stone last week, after having spent the better part of a year methodically hauling everyone in Stone’s life before the grand jury. There is reason to believe that Mueller is gearing up for something very big very soon. There’s just no reason to believe Whitaker. After all, Whitaker couldn’t even stop Mueller from arresting Trump’s best friend on Trump-related crimes. Does this sound like a guy who has any control over Mueller’s timeframe?
