A lot of good that did Trump…
Donald Trump spent all day Thursday setting himself on fire for attention, from an hour long incoherent rambling monologue of a “press conference” to nearly a hundred social media posts. Trump was determined to take back the attention in this election even if it killed him, and politically speaking, it kind of killed him.
By the end of Trump’s self immolation on Thursday, where was he? He’s still falling behind in the polls. He’s still way behind in fundraising. He’s still so befuddled by Kamala Harris’ momentum, he’s not even on the campaign trail this week. Instead he’s sitting home and angrily ranting in delusional fashion about how she’s massively outdrawing him in terms of rally crowd size. The more the tables turn on Trump, the more hyperbolic he gets in his comforting delusions. That kind of delusion may help keep Trump from needing to change pants mid-day, but it’s not doing anything to help him in this election.
That’s what’s so remarkable about Trump spending all day Thursday setting himself on fire for attention: it didn’t do anything. There is going to be the requisite amount of negative media attention about Trump’s press conference, but at the end of the day Kamala Harris’ groundbreaking success is still going to be the story. Trump can’t make that go away, because Harris is the most important story in this election, and it’s the story that most people want to hear about.
So a lot of good Trump did himself on Thursday. All he did was cost himself a few more votes among persuadable voters. And at the end of the day this is still the Kamala Harris show.
