Donald Trump bails in the middle of his 60 Minutes interview with Lesley Stahl
With just fourteen days to go and a fairly large deficit in the polls to make up, Donald Trump is running out of opportunities to reach a mainstream audience and change minds. It looks like Trump just blew up one of those opportunities, as his scheduled 60 Minutes interview has dissolved into chaos.
Kaitlan Collins of CNN says that Donald Trump “abruptly ended” his 60 Minutes interview with Lesley Stahl today, and then blew off what was supposed to have been a joint interview with Stahl and Mike Pence. Shortly after this, Trump tweeted a brief video clip of Stahl, and added “Lesley Stahl of 60 Minutes not wearing a mask in the White House after her interview with me. Much more to come.”
It’s not yet clear why Trump decided to blow up the interview. Was this all a premeditated stunt, so he could try to scandalize the entire thing? Or did he merely get frustrated because the interview was going poorly for him? Trump’s behavior has become so much more deranged and unhinged than usual over the past several days, it’s difficult to parse what he thinks he’s doing at this point. But this development certainly won’t play well for him. And of course 60 Minutes has the video footage of whatever went down.
