2024 Republican primary debates are already shaping up to be a disaster

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

The first Republican primary debate has been scheduled. It is to be held on August 23. And there are some tight rules. All candidates must be able to show they have achieved one percent in the poll. They should also have 40,000 unique donors.

And they must agree to the loyalty pledge — to throw their support behind the eventual nominee even if it’s not them. This sets up an interesting scenario because one knows Trump will never agree to that. I am not convinced DeSantis will, either.

And what of Chris Christie, who, by all accounts, is jumping into the race this week? He likely will not agree to accept Trump — or maybe he will. With Christie, the hypocrisy runs deep.

So who will make it onto the debate stage? Will ANY of them? I think Tim Scott will, and who knows, Pence just might as well. DeSantis and Trump will, but it’s an open question whether either of them will accept the conditions.

This debate promises to be a shit-show to end all shit-shows, which might be why I’m looking forward to it so very much. They will ALL be set on destroying each other, and I almost hope Trump is on stage as I’d love to see him and DeSantis take each other down, and Christie take both down.
