Donald Trump launches into bizarre rant about Scott Pruitt

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

We have to admit, we can’t figure out what Donald Trump is doing when it comes to embattled EPA head Scott Pruitt. Then again, Trump can’t seem to figure out what he’s doing with Pruitt either. This week he made a phone call to Pruitt that seemed to have been set up to fire him, but he never was fired. Then came reports that Trump was actually planning to promote Pruitt instead. This prompted Trump to go on a rant about Pruitt that’s bizarre even by his standards.

After CNN reported that Trump has been considering firing Attorney General Jeff Sessions and replacing him with Scott Pruitt, it raised a whole lot of questions about what might be going on. Trump’s recent appointments (controversial CIA boss Mike Pompeo as Secretary of State, lying liar Ronny Jackson as VA Director), have seemingly been made with very little thought about the fact that they’d have to go through embarrassing Senate confirmation hearings. But even Trump can’t be stupid enough to put Pruitt into Senate confirmation hearings right now, can he?

Here’s what Trump tweeted about the matter: “Do you believe that the Fake News Media is pushing hard on a story that I am going to replace A.G. Jeff Sessions with EPA Chief Scott Pruitt, who is doing a great job but is TOTALLY under siege? Do people really believe this stuff? So much of the media is dishonest and corrupt!” The question is why he’s even talking about this. It’s inevitable that Trump will have to fire Pruitt, so why waste political capital by publicly defending him? Why even bring up the notion of firing Sessions at all?

Donald Trump usually lashes out at media reports about him that hit a little too close to home, so this may mean that Trump really is considering nominating Scott Pruitt as Attorney General, who would have a 0.0% chance of being confirmed by the Senate. This wouldn’t put Trump one inch closer to being able to rid himself of Special Counsel Robert Mueller, as Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein would simply become Acting Attorney General while the Pruitt nomination crashed and burned.
