George Papadopoulos mouths off in a bar again, this time incriminates Jeff Sessions in Trump-Russia
Despite what Sean Hannity and some far right members of Congress will tell you, the investigation into the Trump-Russia conspiracy against the United States did not begin with the Christopher Steele Dossier. In May 2016, after a night of drinking, the loose lips of an intoxicated George Papadopoulos, a Trump campaign foreign policy adviser, bragged to Australia’s top diplomat in Britain that he knew of someone who promised dirt on Trump’s political rival Hillary Clinton. When the diplomat reported the conversation to officials in the United States, that is when the FBI launched their investigation.
Apparently Papadopoulos is a big fan of talking to strangers in nightclubs about what actually happened during the Trump campaign. Last week at a bar in Chicago, Jason Wilson, a computer engineer currently living in Chicago, spotted Papadopoulos and his new wife Simona Mangiante at the Hydrate nightclub. Whether it was the alcohol, or Papadopoulos enjoying his new life after making a plea deal with Special Counsel Robert Mueller, or both, he and his wife were extremely welcoming of their new friend Jason, who pulled up a chair and started up a conversation.
When Jason asked if he’d be disappointed “when all the facts came out,” Papadopoulos responded that everything was “just getting started.” He also added this new bombshell: Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ role in all of it, particularly with regard to Papadopoulos’ relationship with Joseph Mifsud, a Maltese academic with known high level connections to the Kremlin. While Mifsud appears to have completely disappeared off the map, his connections to both the Trump campaign and Russia remain an important thread currently being investigated by Mueller.
Perhaps it was news of this late night meeting, resulting in further damaging evidence of Sessions’ crimes, that caused Trump’s latest Twitter meltdown. Or maybe that was simply from the overall stress the Mueller investigation is putting him through. Either way, it won’t be ending for him, or anyone complicit in assisting in the theft of a federal election, anytime soon. One thing is certain, I hope Papadopoulos and his wife continue to enjoy their time at Chicago nightclubs and remain friendly with anyone looking for some insight into who Mueller is likely going after next.
