Trump ally says Donald Trump could end up in prison
As the Trump-Russia criminal investigation closes in on Donald Trump, it’s become easier to see how it’ll bring about the end of Trump’s presidency. The more relevant question at this point may be what happens to Trump after he’s ousted from office. We’re close enough to getting that answer that one of his own allies is now publicly saying that Trump could end up in prison as a result of the scandal.
Trump never did give Chris Christie a long-dangled role in his White House, and now that Christie’s time as Governor of New Jersey has ended, he’s landed a role as a commentator on ABC News. That’s put him in a situation where he has to discuss his pal Trump’s lies and scandals. Many were expecting Christie to act as a mere cheerleader for Trump, along the lines of Sean Hannity or Hugh Hewitt. Instead, Christie is acknowledging the fact that Trump is a dishonest person. Of course he’s avoiding the word “liar” – but he’s not mincing words when it comes to where Trump could end up.
Christie appeared on ABC This Week on Sunday morning and said that Trump is a “salesman – and salesmen at times tend to be hyperbolic.” That was his way of not having to directly state the obvious, which is that Trump lies constantly. Christie warned that if Trump sits down for an interview with Robert Mueller’s team and uses his usual approach to conversations, it’ll get him busted for lying to federal agents – and “that’s a crime that can send you to jail.”
Donald Trump still seemingly has yet to make up his mind whether to grant an interview to Robert Mueller. Trump’s various lawyers have made conflicting statements on the matter, and then his head lawyer John Dowd resigned. Trump himself has made conflicting statements about whether he wants to do the interview. At this point even his friends seem to think the interview will land him in prison.
