Donald and Melania Trump’s Easter weekend from Hell
We predicted there would be trouble for Donald and Melania Trump this weekend, after Melania decided to spend the week away from him at Mar-a-Lago, while leaking stories to the media about how unhappy she is, only for Donald to show up at Mar-a-Lago on Thursday night anyway. Suffice it to say that things don’t appear to exactly be going swimmingly this weekend for the illegitimate first couple.
Thus far this weekend we’ve already seen Melania insist that her anti-cyberbullying campaign isn’t actually an anti-cyberbullying campaign, in a seeming dig at her husband, the most notorious cyberbully on the planet. Then we saw Melania’s spokesperson make a point of dragging out the Us Magazine controversy by belatedly refuting it, something a skilled public relations professional would only do for the purpose of making sure the controversy stayed alive longer. But it’s not just Melania, as Donald is clearly off his game.
This represents the third day in a row in which Donald Trump has foregone his traditional pre-dawn Twitter rant. He’s then tried to make up for it much later in the morning, first with a whacked out attack on Amazon, multiple major newspapers, and the Governor of California on Saturday, and then with a racist rant about immigrants on Sunday. His routine is off, he’s ranting more bitterly than ever, and it couldn’t be more clear that he’s been thrown off by his wife’s presence these past few days. We did spot them holding hands today, but there’s too much underway here for her to be finished pushing back against him. More is coming.
So now we wait to see what comes next. Melania Trump’s “spring break” excuse has expired, and she must now head back to the White House with Donald Trump, unless she can come up with another arbitrary excuse to remain at Mar-a-Lago once he heads home. She can’t help but find new ways to take shots at him while she’s around him, and he can’t seem to function when he’s around her. This will only get uglier, and whether you care about their marriage or not, this will directly impact Trump’s efforts to save his failing presidency.
